This game is freaky – there’s never any question that the culprit is a total psychopath – but it’s tense and exciting and there’s that desperate need to expose the culprit before something terrible happens. Whilst starting out with poisoned chocolates, threatening letters and a broken watch, things soon progress to a falling klieg light and a bomb. This is one of the few games where the suspect is actively going about in their plot: to kill the star of a hit telenovela, Rick Arlen. This game was an utter – but extremely pleasant – surprise, and I think is probably the most underrated game in the series. I don’t even know where to begin with Stay Tuned for Danger. I’m not sure what it is exactly: if it’s uncovering new passageways in the tomb, reading through tapestries of hieroglyphs for clues to open a new area, finding and dusting artefacts in ruggedly tents or telling the smug lead Egyptologist that he’s rubbish at his job if he can’t translate a simple sentence of hieroglyphics without hours of intense pondering?Īnd the culprit’s capture? Gosh, I wish someone would rescue me from a raging sandstorm with a mere shovel in-hand. There’s still something so magical about Tomb of the Lost Queen though. The explanations given by each of the suspects, ranging from aliens to curses, were ridiculous, especially considering the game assumes that Nancy – and subsequently, us as the players – would find these explanations valid just because some obvious nutcases told her to. For one, too much of the game is focused on trying to find Nefertari’s tomb without much explanation as to why finding a dead mummy will help us find out what happened to our mentor. Nevertheless, there’s a lot this game could have stood to benefit from.

The puzzles are also great, making full use of the setting. (Anyone who has played this game will know what I mean). The characters are also engaging and talkative, although some do border on being a tad unbelievable. The game definitely makes full use of its locations, allowing the player to explore different chambers of a stunningly-designed tomb, believed to be the home of the ‘lost queen’, Nefertari. It starts out with an intriguing premise – who knocked out Nancy’s mentor, Jon Boyle? – and is set in one of the most historical places in the world: the ancient tombs in Egypt. Tomb of the Lost Queen is certainly one of the hidden gems in the series. Have a different opinion? Leave a comment below! Subsequently, the differences between one ranking to another was less about their technical perfection and more about the game’s charm and character. Nevertheless, I have to say that almost all the games in this final third of this list are very good – almost excellent. Ranking these games was fairly easy and, unlike other sections of this list, most of the games have not moved much from their first proposed positions.
